Week 17 Vocabulary – Short Definitions

Story: Two Bad Ants
  1. dew (n.):  droplets of water that appear on the grass in the morning
  2. blinding (adj.): very bright
  3. flash (n.): a quick burst of light
  4. new-found (adj.): recently found; new
  5. hover (v.): to hang in the air
  6. boiling (adj.): very hot
  7. violently (adv.): to do in a violent way
  8. bitter (adj.): strong, often unpleasant taste; opposite of sweet
  9. tilt (v.):  to lift something so one side is higher
  10. empty (v.): to remove everything so nothing is left
  11. pitch-black (adj.): very black; very dark
  12. steep (adj.):  almost straight up and down; rising sharply
  13. shovel (v.): to move things as if with a shovel, in large amounts
  14. disk (n.): a flat, or almost flat round-shaped item
  15. lift (v.): to raise up
  16. unbearably (adv.): in a way that’s too much/ difficult to take
  17. refreshing (adj.): to make like new; to restore
  18. long (for) (v.): to really wish for or want something
  19. tube (n.): something shaped like a pipe
  20. chamber (n.): a large type of room
  21. bruised (adj.):  having a dark mark after an injury
  22. comforting (adj.): providing comfort; making feel better
  23. remind (v.): to make someone think about something again.
  24. exhausted (adj.): very tired
  25. grateful (adj.):  thankful
