Goodbye, Mr. Kang

2) foolish (adj): showing a lack of good sense, judgment, or discretion
3) perch (v): alight, settle, or rest on a perch, a height, or a precarious spot
4) bow (v): to bend the head, body, or knee in reverence, submission, or shame
5) recipe (n): a set of instructions for making something from various ingredients
6) chilly (adj): noticeably cold
7) foreign (adj): belonging to a different country
8) slurp (v): to make a sucking noise while eating or drinking
9) relief (n): removal or lightening of something oppressive, painful, or distressing

Mr. Yokoe quickly bows his head to his neighbor to welcome him.

 After he sings he bows to the audience. 

The morning air is chilly, so Cam Yokoe grabs a warm sweater.

 Mr. Yokoe tells Cam it is foolish to leave her bird's cage open.

They are from China, so for them the United States is a foreign country.

He moved here from a foreign country called Sudan.

 Mr. Yokoe and Cam walk close together on a narrow path.

The gap was too narrow for me to squeeze through. 

 A singing bird perches briefly on a branch overhead but then flies away.

Watch the red bird as it perches on the branch.

 Back at home, Cam looks for a recipe to make wild bird feed.

My stepmother wrote that recipe for beef stew.

·         Slurp -   He took a slurp from his mug as he carried it back to his chair.

·         Relief -   I felt such a sense of relief after I finished my test.

·         Chop -    I used the knife to chop the vegetables for the stew.

·         Scallion -  One of the restaurant's most popular dishes is spicy chicken with scallion pancakes.

·         Fragrant -  The flowers have a strong, fragrant smell. 

·         Oven -     My mom put the Christmas cookies in the oven to bake.

·         Cabinet -       The sugar and the flour are in the storage cabinet next to the stove.

·         Damp -             My hair's still damp from the rain.    

         Rinse -              She needs to rinse the shampoo out of her hair.           


y      yolk -     We need to seperate the yellow egg yolk from the white.

        sleek -     The new sleek Ferrari 296 GTB looks impressive and fast.

         tears -     Chopping onions brings tears to my eyes.

         blade -     Be careful of the sharp blade on the kitchen knife.

         straight ahead - There is a bear on the path straight ahead of us!

         full-blown - The covid lockdowns turned into a full-blown crisis

          blink -    Try not to blink your eyes when we take the picture.

          gingerly - They walked gingerly over the  thin ice.

         banister - My brother slid down the banister as I ran down the stairs.
